Thanksgiving does not have to entail binge-eating salt. Dietitian and food blogger Maya Steele offers low-sodium meals as festive and good.
Turkey “Herb- roasted”. New plants are the secret, Maya says. She rubs a turkey with olive oil, garlic, and a concoction of rosemary, thyme, and sage. For a good centrepiece, roast till golden.
Mash cauliflower with garlic. Maya steamed cauliflower mixed with roasted garlic and a dash of almond milk for a lighter interpretation of mashed potatoes. She assures me not to miss the salt.
Cranberry Orange Relish. Maya creates a fresh relish with cranberries, orange zest, and a little of honey rather than bottled cranberry sauce. “With turkey, it’s tart, sweet, and ideal,” she says.
Maya’s menu guarantees a tasty, heart-healthy Thanksgiving feast.
